What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?
“Sorry is the fool who trades his soul for a corvette, thinks he’ll get the girl he’ll only get the mechanic” Eddie Vedder.
Jesus Christ has many references to the poor and how they are ones that own the kingdom of heaven. He also states how difficult it is for a rich person to enter the kingdom.
This refers to the quality of how we earn a living. If we are a gaining money in a way that is damaging to others it ultimately will hurt ourselves. The mindset of ‘us vs them’ is damaging to life. Truly, there is only us, the human race.
In identifying with our possessions we lose track of what really matters. What you own ends up owning you.
Be still and know that I am god
When we remove worry, when we remove identifying with our possessions and identity labels (doctor, lawyer, good person, bad person), when we serve others, and when we have faith we find we have removed ‘the weeds from the garden.’
We find that when you refer to yourself for approval -instead of other people – all of the tremblings, fears, and worries leave. When the ‘weeds’ are pulled from our inner garden we are left with inner stillness.
Then, when we are still we develop access to God within.
If those who lead you say to you, “Look, the Kingdom is in the sky,” the the birds will get there first.
If they say “It is in the ocean,” then the fish will get there first.
But the Kingdom of God is within you and outside of you. Once you come to know yourselves, you will become known.
And you will know that it is you who are the children of the living Father.
When Jesus Christ talks about the kingdom he refers to it as within. As with you. What does he mean when he talks about the kingdom being within?
When we go within we are prompted to see what really matters. Is focusing on all the problems doing any good? When we take an inventory of self we see our self for how we truly are. Look within, and you might be surprised what you find.
